Growing up I have always wanted to help people. I generally put their best interest ahead of my own. I didn’t realize that this need to help others was my calling in life and would guide me towards achieving my dreams.

I attended Arizona State University where I graduated with my Bachelor’s in Elementary and Special Education. I immediately got a second-grade teaching position at Lowell Elementary. Woo hoo! I went on to teach at that school for 5 years. I have never worked so hard in my life. Becoming a teacher was great but I had no idea how much those kiddos would influence me for the better in order to become the best version of myself.

Lowell Elementary was a Title 1 school that had mostly Spanish speaking students from low-income families. Many teachers are intimidated by
this due to the struggling home life the kiddos face can reflect this in their behavior at school. Don’t get me wrong, I had my fair share of bad cookies but I soon realized these kids just wanted to feel appreciated and loved.
While I was teaching, I began to think about the influence I had on each one of my students. I started to reflect a lot more on my accomplishments and what I hope to achieve in my future. One moment that kept ringing in my ear was how active I was growing up. I danced ballet, hip-hop, jazz and Broadway for almost 18 years. When I was 16 years old, I asked my parents for a gym membership… not a car! Ha! It became apparent that I had a hole in my life. That empty space was the love I had for being active.

I kid you not, that day I went to the gym and got a personal trainer. One month later, I was preparing to compete in my very first NPC bikini competition. I ended up competing in a total of three NPC competitions, one IFBB competition and two WBFF competitions within 5 years of each other. This sparked something hidden in me that I didn’t even knew that I had; commitment, determination, gratitude, love for fitness and nutrition.

After 5 wonderful years of teaching and enjoying 28 years in Tempe, I moved to San Diego to be with my “soon to be” fiancé.

ITS OK TO START OVER & PURSUE ANOTHER DREAM.
IN FACT, I ENCOURAGE IT!
Once I got to San Diego, I felt lost. I had just left my family, friends and career behind. Needless to say, I was scared. But I couldn't let that get me down. I had to push forward and keep my goal in mind.

I had every intention on teaching when I got to San Diego but there was something inside me that said this was my chance to start over. To try something new. To follow a second dream. That dream was to pursue fitness and nutrition. So, what did I do? Well I applied for Arizona State University’s online nutrition program, got my personal training certification for National Academy of Sports Medicine then started working as a personal trainer.

NEVER STOP BELIEVING IN YOURSELF...
NO MATTER WHAT HAPPENS!
I have lived in San Diego for a little over two years now. I have only one year left before I get my Bachelor’s in Nutrition. My next steps are to work towards becoming a Registered Dietitian. Throughout this crazy journey I had in my twenties, there is a definitive answer for what I want to with my life and that is to help educate people. I want to teach others about what it means to live a happy and healthy lifestyle without giving up what we truly love most.
